FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

STOCKHOLM, Sweden (September 5, 2024) - The Operakällaren Foundation is pleased to announce that renowned keynote speaker and media personality Dr. Rod Berger will serve as the host and master of ceremonies for their annual gala on September 6th, 2024. The black-tie event will celebrate the foundation's work and raise funds to support the vital mission of WaterAid Sweden.

Funds from the evening’s auction will support WaterAid's work in the Hanang district of Tanzania through the Resilience Project. A goal of 2.4 million kroner will support infrastructure for clean drinking water to three primary schools, benefiting a total of 2,327 students and 27 teachers. The funds will also ensure clean water access for two healthcare facilities, serving both patients and staff. In total, 20,616 community members will be impacted through these schools and healthcare facilities.

“If the gala and auction succeed we will also be able to build toilets and handwashing stations at the schools and healthcare facilities. We can also install an incineration system for used menstrual products and biomedical waste,” shared WaterAid Director of Programs & Policy, Julia Schalk.

"We are honored to have Dr. Berger lend his expertise and charismatic presence to our gala this year given our aspirations to connect the need to a distinguished audience," said Operakällaren Foundation founder, Abbe Ibrahim. "His commitment to powerful storytelling, education, advocacy, and global impact aligns perfectly with our foundation's values and the important work of our foundation and partnership with WaterAid Sweden."

Berger traveled with the Swedish NGOs in May of this year to the Manyara Region of Tanzania to report on the success of past water damn projects and review the tenets of the forthcoming Resilience Project locations.

"I am thrilled to be part of this meaningful event supporting the critical mission of WaterAid Sweden," said Dr. Berger. "Access to clean water is a fundamental human right, and I'm proud to lend my voice to this important cause alongside the Operakällaren Foundation."

The gala will feature a lineup of distinguished speakers, musical performances, famed artists, photographers, fashion designers, award-winning athletes, and distinguished members of the greater Stockholm community. Funds raised will support WaterAid Sweden's initiatives to provide sustainable access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene education in communities across the Hanang District within Manyara.
