A book made an argument. Seven companions put it to work.

ReignLight has published the companion library to The Narrative Edge, Dr. Rod Berger's book on authentic storytelling from Wiley. Six titles are on sale now in paperback.

Most books end at the last page. A reader closes the cover, agrees with the argument, and returns to a week that has no room for it.

The Narrative Edge: Authentic Storytelling That Meets the Moment (Wiley) made the case that the story a leader tells decides whether anyone believes them. The companion library that ReignLight now publishes asks the harder question: what does a person actually do with that on a Tuesday?

The answer runs to seven volumes, each built for a different kind of work. Three are full-size field guides with room to write. Two are pocket editions small enough to carry. Two more form a matched pair on the interview itself, one for the person asking and one for the person answering.

Six are available now. The seventh, Your Narrative Edge: The Field Guide, is forthcoming.

What the companions do that the book cannot

The distinction Berger draws throughout his work is between Kitchen Table and Police Report storytelling: between the account that connects and the account that merely verifies. A book can name that distinction. It cannot make a reader practice it.

The field guides can. Each session in Leaders & Business: The Boardroom Sessions closes by narrowing to a Six-Word Story, a constraint tight enough to force a choice about what actually matters. Every exercise happens on the page, in the book, not afterward in a notebook that never gets opened.

"A working book is a different object than a book about working," Berger said. "You are not reading it. You are answering it, and the answers are in your handwriting."

Two sides of one conversation

Ask. and Tell. publish as a pair, and they are meant to sit together. Berger has conducted more than 4,000 interviews across five continents, with heads of industry, authors, athletes, and global figures. The pair distills what he learned from both chairs.

"Most of us are on both sides of that table in the same week," Berger said. "You run a meeting in the morning and you get asked something in the afternoon that you have no prepared answer for. The second one is the harder job, and almost nobody trains for it."

What the library asks of a reader

There is no order to follow and nothing to complete. A reader picks the one that matches the room they are walking into that week, and leaves the rest on the shelf until a different week arrives.

Which story about your work did you inherit rather than choose? Whose interests does it serve now? What would you have to give up to author a different one? And if someone took away your title and your business card tomorrow, what would remain that people would still recognize as yours?

The books leave those open on purpose. The blank space after each one is the actual product.

Availability

Every title is available on Amazon in paperback, and through Ingram for school and bulk orders. The Narrative Edge is published by Wiley and is available in hardcover.
